Today’s writing prompt is based on the poem Drought on the Open Road
Write a poem about ordinary needs that sometimes lead us to do or consume what is not natural or good for either us or our natural surroundings. Why don’t people “look up”? In other words, why do they almost blindly do things that are counter to their well-being or survival?
Also, for an extra challenge, play around with line breaks, as well as line lengths, to create either…
• a sense of doing something mindlessly, or
• a sense of creating sudden attention that could cause someone to “look up,” to reflect, or trick their own brains (rather than letting their brains trick them)
