What do you tell your children about a world that, arguably, faces challenges that ask us to draw on our best ideas, our deepest creativity, our longing for connection? Or, if you are a child looking forward, what story do you tell yourself about your future?
Says Damon Gameau, “Over the last three years I’ve been making a film called 2040. It’s a visual letter to my daughter showing her what the world could look like that year if we put into practice some of the best solutions that exist today. I call it an exercise in ‘fact-based dreaming’, as everything I show her in the future has to already exist today.”
Gameau invites you to tell your story for 2040, too. That might take a little learning (and dreaming) first. But the best story telling always has.
Maybe you tell your story best through art?
Here’s a rendering (below) commissioned by the city of Melbourne, for instance, that is part of bringing their story to life through the actual greening of their city.
As Per Espen Stoknes notes, what we need are storytellers who can captivate us with an exciting vision for the future.
We invite you to be one of the storytellers, through poetry, fiction, or art. (Sure, ping us on Twitter with an @tspoetry, and if we find your story inspiring we’d be happy to share!)
Tell your story for 2040.
